The following photos are of a recent forest fire near the Clarksville, Texas ranch.

Forrest fires were especially active the winter of 2005-06 in Red River County, Texas.  One fire came to within approximately one mile of the Chapman Family Ranch before it was successfully snuffed.

To extinguish the fire, fighters were able to successfully light a back fire to remove the fuel that kept the fire burning.

The helicopter in the photo below is taking water from the new Chapman Family Ranch stock tank to help fighting the fire.  By taking water from the stock tank instead of the nearby Red River,  the distance to and from the river was reduced by about two miles making quicker response time.

However, nothing worked until the back fire burned enough and some rain fell.

The fire continued to burn as morning broke over the forest.

Chapman Family Ranch water was used to fight the forest fire.

Note the helicopter dumping water on the remaining fire.  It is having to fly through smoke and haze.

The forest after the fire  burned through it.
