The Tom Johnsontone Family Came “A Calling”!

The Tom Johnstone family “came a calling”.  Their arrival reminded us at the Chapman Family Ranch (CFR) of the song, “She’ll she be coming round the mountain when she comes”! All a great time while they were at the ranch.  Sean Johnstone came a few days earlier to work and “earn his keep” on the CFR.

The Johnstone family is from Connecticut and this was their first time on a Texas ranch. The Johnstones are old friends of Barbara Lane, a frequent visitor to the ranch, and she came with them from New Canaan, Connecticut. to enjoy their time on the CFR.

Sean Johnstone who arrived earlier did whatever he was asked to do --- earning and learning his way as he went along.  The week started with riding horses, cleaning barns, feeding cattle, repairing fences and then rounding up cattle and working them.  For the final night for the family we reserved the historic Lennox House in Clarksville where we had dinner and a tour of the 1894 home.  Also accompanying us were some of our ranching neighbors, Morris and Sharon Morgan and Aaron and Nikki Robertson with son, Chase.

Clarksville, one of the first City Charters in Texas, was established in 1844. It was the gateway to Texas with many famous Texans arriving into Texas through Clarksville, including Sam Houston.

Sean Johnstone later returned to the CFR for three more weeks of work.  His family came with him, although, they stayed only for a long weekend.
