The TCU Women’s Rifle Team

Karen Monez (Chapman) is the coach of the TCU Women’s Rifle Team, and has been  since 2004.

Karen Monez, wife of John L. Chapman, is listed in the Who is Who of the 20th Century of Women Shooters.  Ms. Monez set 97 world and national records while shooting for the US Army with big bore, small bore, air rifles, and air pistols.  Two of these records still stand.  She is the reigning worlds’ champion ladies cowboy action shooter, age 49 and over.  Her “handle” is Squaw Creek Rose.  Ms. Monez was selected as Coach of the Year for Universities for 2007 by the National Rifle Association.

The TCU Women’s Rifle Team was not ranked nationally the first year Karen was the coach, but the team ranked 17th in the nation the second year.  For 2007 Karen’s rifle team was ranked 5th in the nation and has four All American honors.  The four girls that shot on the team for the 2007 year were freshman.

The Chapman Family established a Scholarship for the TCU Women’s Rifle Program in the name of George W. Lacy, M. D., who was the brother of Mrs. Edithe Ann “Lacy” (Mamma D) Chapman and the wife of Barney Chapman, Sr.  Both of the Lacy family members attended TCU.

Dr. Lacy graduated from TCU then attended Tulane University for his medical studies. Dr. Lacy was proud of TCU and attended all of the football games and many other school events.  He was an avid big game hunter and went  to Montana each fall for a elk and deer hunt.  Mamma D also attended TCU.  I. B. (Barney) Chapman II attended TCU  1956-1961 and is listed in the class of 1960.

The Chapman Family has also established a scholarship in the names of I. B. (Barney) & Edithe Ann Lacy Chapman in Ranch Management.

The Chapman Family has also help to established a Scholarship in Ranch Management in the name of James L. Utley, a deceased business associate of Barney Chapman II.
